About Mark

In addition to being a Democratic candidate for Colorado State House in District 7, Mark is a Denver native who grew up taking RTD to and from school, riding his bike throughout Denver’s parks and trails, and cheering on the Broncos from home or at the old Mile High.  Mark and his family moved to California when he was 13, after his family dealt with a major illness, the Denver economy slid into recession, the real estate market collapsed and jobs disappeared.  Mark went to high school and college in California, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in government and master’s degree in politics from the Claremont Colleges.

Mark developed a passion for politics at an early age.  While in high school, Mark walked his first precinct as a volunteer for the Anita Perez Ferguson Campaign for Congress in the Santa Barbara area.  At Claremont McKenna College, he served as President of the Democrats of the Claremont Colleges, after founding the organization his freshman year.  He was also elected President of the California College Democrats.

As a sophomore, Mark met Jessica Brody, whom he married in 2002.  After college and graduate school, Mark and Jessica moved to Rockville, Maryland, and Mark went to work in Washington, DC.  While in DC, he helped elect Democrats to offices at all levels, and volunteered for local and national candidates each year.

In his heart, Denver has always been Mark’s home, so he and Jessica moved back in 2005.  Together with their 16 year old dog Samantha and their young daughter, Leah, Mark and Jessica have settled happily in Northeast Denver.

Today, Mark runs a small, local survey research business that he founded in 2006.  He serves his community as President of his neighborhood association (Stapleton United Neighbors).

Mark has also been active with the local Democratic Party, including leading the Democratic Party of Denver’s Get Out the Vote Campaign in 2008.  In addition, he has canvassed door to door throughout Northeast Denver on behalf of other Democrats, as well as key ballot measures, such as the 2006 measure to raise the minimum wage in Colorado.

As a Denver native, father, and life long Democrat, Mark is committed to leaving our home better off for his daughter’s generation, their children and grandchildren.  He is running for Colorado State House to ensure that we fulfill this commitment.

Mark believes deeply that together, we can move Denver forward, and leave it much better off than we find it today.
