Energy and the Environment

As a father and Denver native, Mark is committed to protecting Colorado’s open spaces, water, air, and wildlife for the enjoyment of our children and generations to come.  For about four years, Mark’s home has been powered by 100% renewable energy sources.  His family also joined Denver’s composting program.  Five years ago, they purchased a hybrid car and replaced their gas lawn mower with a cleaner electric one.

As president of his neighborhood association, Mark has twice helped provide funding for the Sand Creek Regional Greenway, to enhance and expand our open spaces in Northeast Denver.  He is also a strong supporter of the Westerly Creek Connection plan to create a new greenway from Lowry to Stapleton by bringing Westerly Creek back above ground.

By reducing its carbon footprint, Denver has already become a national leader in sustainable energy.  But Mark believes we must build on that leadership to make Denver and Colorado a world leader in renewable energy production as well.

To achieve that potential, the state of Colorado needs to strengthen its ties to homegrown green energy companies.  Mark will push the state government to make energy retrofitting available and affordable for every home in Northeast Denver.  He also supports implementing a feed-in tariff for renewable energy in Colorado (similar to what has made Germany the world’s current leader in renewable energy).

Because Mark’s campaign is not accepting a dime from lobbyists or special interests, his incentive is one thing and one thing only: to look out for Colorado’s best interests by protecting its environment.
